The theatre has experienced the participation of the like of: Walerian Lachnitt, Zbigniew Bogdański, Krzysztof Wójcicki, Julia Wernio, Jacek Bunsch. Jerzy Juk Kowarski has also been involved in putting on shows here, as well as Andrzej Wajda, Łucja i Bruno Sobczakowie, Daniel Olbrychski, Maria Seweryn, Adam Ferency, Waldemar Śmigasiewicz, Piotr Łazarkiwicz, Zofia de Ines.
Since 2008, the director of the Municipal Theatre has been Ingmar Villqist, who has concentrated on the classics of modern theatre with the planned participation of talented directors such as: Anna Augustynowicz, Iwona Kempa, Izabela Cywińska, Agnieszka Holland, Zbigniew Brzoza, Krzysztof Babicki, Paweł Szkotak, Barbara Sas, Laco Adamik, Piotr Cieplak, Maciej Prus oraz Maciej Englert i Grzegorz Jarzyna (theatre workshops), Paweł Miśkiewicz, Agnieszka Glińska, Grażyna Kania.
One of the major projects of the Municpal Theatre has been the inauguration in 1996 of the Summer Stage on Orłowo beach. The instigators of this project were Julia Wernio and Krzysztof Wójcicki, who was in fact the first to put on an open air show. One of the first was Christopher Comumbus' Logbook in Kościuszki Square in Gdynia.
Since 2006, the Municipal Theatre in Gdynia has organised R@PORT (The Polish Festival of Modern Theatre) in conjuction with the Gdynia Dramatics Prize. This festival is a showcase for modern reworkings of classics or original new talent. The best theatre groups from the whole of Poland take part. There are also exhibitions, conferences, TV performances and workshops.
The first R@PORT (2006) had the slogan: Theatre against the pathology of modern life. First prize went to Przemysław Wojcieszka for 'Made in Poland'
The second R@PORT (2007) turned its attention to the inner self and the soul of the modern Pole. The winner was 'Bóg Niżyński' by Piotr Tomaszuk.
The third R@PORT (2008) focused on the blind spots of history. The winning play was 'Jew' by Artur Pałygi.
The Municipal Theatre in Gdynia also runs educational projects. Every Monday there are lessons for youngsters - Stage 138 run by the actors Mariusz Żarnecki and Tomasz Pdsiadły as well as Sławek 'Rodrigues' Porębski.
A second project is 'Tha Hand of Gombrowicz' which includes lessons for small children and workshops for secondary and high school students. There is also a club for older people (Tea with Gombrowicz), student performances, meetings and competitions.
A third educational project is a series of concerts once a month on a Sunday for young theatre fans.
