The National Museum Deparment of Fine Art in Gdansk is housed in a listed building which formerly belonged to the Franciscan Order in the 15th century.
The building is the only remaining architectural example of a middle-ages cloister. Luckily, its interior has remained virtually intact to this day with its old refectory, ambulatories and chambers with crystal vaults, and is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of gothic interior design in Gdansk.
Permanent Exhibits
Late gothic sculptures and altars, the work of anonymous craftsmen from Gdanks and Elbląg, as well as gold, tin, ceramics and furniture are on display here. The collection is enhanced by Gdansk paintings from the 14th - 16th century, Polish art from 19th-20th century and Dutch painting from the 15th-18th century.
The star of the collection is Hans Memling's The Last Judgement.
