Urodzony w Bejrucie (Libanie), w rodzinie pochodzenia ormiańskiego, profesor Avedis Kouyoumdjian rozpoczął studia w wieku 12 lat w Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst w Wiedniu. Był wówczas najmłodszym studentem na kierunku pianistyka. Na Uniwersytecie studiował u profesora Dietera Webera, Noela Floresa, Alexandra Jennera i Georga Eberta. Studia podyplomowe kontynuował u Djanko Ilieva, Stanisława Neuhausa i Aliki Kezeradze.
Od momentu zdobycia pierwszej nagrody na VI Międzynarodowym Konkursie im. Ludwiga van Beethovena w Wiedniu w 1981 roku, kariera profesora Kouyoumdjiana jako artysty-wykonawcy, profesora, dyrektora i administratora jest naznaczona wieloma osiągnięciami. Od tego czasu występował w renomowanych salach koncertowych Europy, Stanów Zjednoczonych, Kanady i Japonii, również jako solista z wybitnymi orkiestrami na całym świecie. Brał też udział w wielu różnych festiwalach. Jest cenionym jurorem w najważniejszych międzynarodowych konkursach, a także prowadzi kursy mistrzowskie na wielu uniwersytetach w Europie i Japonii. Jego nagrania ze znakomitymi artystami, zwłaszcza z jego wieloletnią partnerką w duecie Takumi Kubota, wspaniale ukazują kunszt pianistyczny i kameralny.
W 1997 roku otrzymał stanowisko profesora na Wydziale Instrumentów Klawiszowych Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst w Wiedniu, gdzie w 1987 roku rozpoczął karierę pedagogiczną jako adiunkt, a obecnie prowadzi klasę fortepianu i muzyki kameralnej. Jest inicjatorem i założycielem Międzynarodowego Konkursu Muzyki Kameralnej im. Josepha Haydna na tej samej uczelni, a w 2002 roku został współzałożycielem/dyrektorem Instytutu Muzyki Kameralnej im. Josepha Haydna. Od 2004 roku jest dyrektorem artystycznym Festiwalu „Piano a St. Ursanne” w Szwajcarii. W październiku 2010 roku został dziekanem Wydziału Wykonawstwa i Instrumentalistyki Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst w Wiedniu. W październiku 2016 roku został mianowany profesorem fortepianu w „Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth” w Belgii.

„Jedno z najlepszych i najbardziej fascynujących nagrań fortepianowych roku” – napisał niemiecki magazyn Fono Forum o jego nagraniu sonat i rond Carla Philippa Emanuela Bacha, a nagranie utworów na fortepian i orkiestrę Johanna Nepomuka Hummla znalazło się na liście „Editor’s Choice” renomowanego angielskiego magazynu Gramophone. Kolejną edycją, która przyniosła mu międzynarodową sławę, było nagranie wszystkich koncertów fortepianowych Ferdinanda Riesa z Nowozelandzką Orkiestrą Symfoniczną, Królewską Filharmonią w Liverpoolu i innymi orkiestrami.
Christopher Hinterhuber urodził się w Austrii. Studiował u Alexa Papenberga, Rudolfa Kehrera, Lazara Bermana, Avo Kouyoumdjiana i Heinza Medjimoreca na Uniwersytecie Muzyki i Sztuk Scenicznych w Wiedniu. Doskonalił się również pod okiem takich artystów jak Oleg Maisenberg i Vladimir Ashkenazy w Akademii „Spotkania z mistrzem” w Imola we Włoszech.
Zdobył wiele czołowych nagród i wyróżnień na międzynarodowych konkursach pianistycznych, m.in.: w Lipsku (Międzynarodowy
Konkurs Bachowski), Saarbrücken (Międzynarodowy Konkurs Pianistyczny „Jan Sebastian Bach” pamięci Waltera Blankenheima), Pretorii (Międzynarodowy Konkurs Muzyczny Unisa w Afryce), Zurychu (Międzynarodowy Konkurs Pianistyczny im. Gezy Anda) i Wiedniu (Międzynarodowy Konkurs Pianistyczny im. Ludwiga van Beethovena).
Jako „Wschodząca Gwiazda 2002/2003” występował ze skrzypaczką Patricią Kopatchinskają w Carnegie Hall w Nowym Jorku oraz we wszystkich ważnych ośrodkach muzycznych w Europie.
W ciągu ostatnich kilku lat brał udział w prestiżowych festiwalach, takich jak Festiwal w Salzburgu, Festiwal w Schleswig-Holstein, Styriarte w Grazu, Carinthischer Sommer Ossiach, Tydzień Mozarta w Salzburgu, Schubertiada w Schwarzenbergu, Festiwal Pianistyczny w Ruhr i Praska Jesień, występując jako solista ze znakomitymi orkiestrami: z Wiedeńską Orkiestrą Symfoniczną, Radiową Orkiestrą Symfoniczną i Forum Brzmienia w Wiedniu, Wirtuozami Wiedeńskimi, Orkiestrą Kameralną Wiednia i Zurychu, Orkiestrą MDR w Lipsku, Królewską Filharmonią w Liverpoolu, Orkiestrą Symfoniczną Bournemouth, Nową Japońską Filharmonią, Filharmonią Luksemburską, Filharmonią Praską, Orkiestrą Mozarteum z Salzburga i Nowozelandzką Orkiestrą Symfoniczną; pod batutami takich sław jak Vladimir Ashkenazy, Kirill Karabits, Jakub Hrusa, Bertrand de Billy, Sylvain Cambreling, Beat Furrer, Howard Griffiths, Yakov Kreizberg, Christian Arming, Adrian Leaper, Andrés Orozco Estrada, Dennis Russell Davies, Ari Rasilainen, Hubert Soudant, Alfred Eschwé i Bruno Weil.
Szczególnym doświadczeniem było nagranie ścieżki dźwiękowej z utworami Schuberta, Rachmaninowa, Schönberga z jednoczesnym filmowaniem jego rąk, do francusko-austriackiego filmu „La pianista” na podstawie powieści Elfrieda Jelinka w reżyserii Michaela Hanekego, który to film otrzymał Wielką Nagrodę Jury Festiwalu Filmowego w Cannes w 2001 roku.
Oprócz działalności solistycznej bardzo ważną częścią jego życia muzycznego pozostaje muzyka kameralna. Od 2012 roku jest członkiem renomowanego Altenberg Piano Trio, które ma własny cykl koncertów w Musikverein w Wiedniu. W latach 2017–2021 grał także w uznanym kwintecie fortepianowym „Philharmonic Five” z członkami Filharmonii Wiedeńskiej. Zespół wydał swoje pierwsze nagranie CD w wytwórni Sony Classical w styczniu 2018 roku.
Christopher Hinterhuber regularnie prowadzi kursy mistrzowskie na całym świecie, jest profesorem fortepianu i Kierownikiem Katedry Fortepianu na Uniwersytecie Muzyki i Sztuk Scenicznych w Wiedniu.
Avedis Kouyoumdjian
Born in Beirut, Lebanon to a family of Armenian descent, Professor Avedis Kouyoumdjian began his studies when he was 12 years old at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He was the youngest student at the time majoring in piano performance. At the University he studied with Professor Dieter Weber, Noel Flores, Alexander Jenner and Georg Ebert. He continued his postgraduate work with Djanko Iliev, Stanislaw Neuhaus and Alica Kezeradze.
Professor Kouyoumdjian’s career as an artist performer, professor, director, and administrator is marked by the many accomplishments he has achieved in the field of music since he won the first price at the Sixth International Beethoven Competition in Vienna in 1981. Since then he has performed in well renowned concert halls in Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan. He has been a soloist with well renowned orchestras around the world and taken part in many different festivals. He is a sought out juror in major international competitions in addition to conducting master classes in many universities in Europe and Japan. His recordings with many great artists and especially with his long time duo partner Takumi Kubota, well demonstrate his artistry as a pianist and a chamber musician.
In 1997, he was appointed Professor of Piano and Chamber Music in the Keyboard Department at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna where he began his pedagogical career as an assistant professor in 1987. He is the initiator and founder of the International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition in the same University and in 2002 he became the cofounder/director of the Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Institute of the University. Since the summer of 2004, he has been the Artistic Director at the “Piano a St. Ursanne” festival in Switzerland. In October 2010, he was appointed Dean for the Department of Performance and Instrumental Studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In October 2016, he was appointed professor for piano at the “Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth” in Belgium.

„One of the best and most fascinating piano recordings of the year“ wrote the german magazine Fono Forum about his recording of Sonatas and Rondos by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, followed by an „Editor‘s Choice“ by the renowned english Gramophone Magazine for the recording of works for piano and orchestra by Hummel.
Another recording which has brought him international attention and was the recording of all Piano Concertos by Ferdinand Ries with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and other orchestras.
Born in Austria, Christopher Hinterhuber studied with Alex Papenberg, Rudolf Kehrer, Lazar Berman, Avo Kouyoumdjian and Heinz Medjimorec at the University for Music and performing Arts in Vienna and the Accademia „Incontri col Maestro“ in Imola, Italy acquiring additional artistic input from such artists as Oleg Maisenberg and Vladimir Ashkenazy. He has won numerous top prizes and honors at the international piano competitions in Leipzig (Bach), Saarbrücken (Bach), Pretoria (Unisa), Zurich (Geza Anda) and Vienn (Beethoven) among others.
As “Rising Star 2002/2003”, he performed with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja in the international series at the Carnegie Hall, New York and in all important musical centers in Europe.
The last few years have seen him play in major festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Styriarte Graz, Carinthischer Sommer Ossiach, Mozartwoche Salzburg, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Ruhr Piano Festival and the Prague Autumn; under such conductors as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Kirill Karabits, Jakub Hrusa, Bertrand de Billy, Sylvain Cambreling, Beat Furrer, Howard Griffiths, Yakov Kreizberg, Christian Arming, Adrian Leaper, Andrés Orozco Estrada, Dennis Russell Davies, Ari Rasilainen, Hubert Soudant, Alfred Eschwé and Bruno Weil; with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Klangforum in Vienna, the Wiener Virtuosen, the Vienna and Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the MDR Orchestra Leipzig, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the New Japan Philharmonic, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, the Philharmonia Prague, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra among others.
A special project was the sound recording (Schubert, Rachmaninov, Schönberg) and filming (his hands) for the french-austrian movie “La pianiste” based on a novel by Elfriede Jelinek and directed by Michael Haneke, which was awarded the Great Prize of the Jury in Cannes in 2001.
Beside his activities as soloist, chamber music is an important part of his musical life, for example as member sine 2012 of the renowned Altenberg Piano Trio, which has its own series in the Musikverein in Vienna; from 2017 until 2021 he played also in acclaimed Piano Quintet ”Philharmonic Five“ with members of the Vienna Philharmonic, the ensemble released their first CD-recording on Sony Classical in January 2018.
He gives regularly masterclasses worldwide and is professor for piano and head of the piano department at the University for Music and performing Arts in Vienna.
